       Our Story

At the Monte Castello Estate, retired wine expert Jeffrey Benson and his wife Clare discovered an ancient olive grove on their newly acquired property 500 metres above Lake Garda in northern Italy which had a multitude of century old olive trees.

With the help of local agronomist Renzo Furlani who is the expert on the olive trees for this area, our olive grove has once again come to life to produce exceptional olive oil.

Now, our full time agronomist Marco Penitenti, who was trained by Snr Furlani, continues in the age old traditions and selects only the finest oil to be bottled under our Monte Castello label.

The result of severe pruning produces the highest quality fruit possible, which is then pressed within two hours of being hand-picked, a crucial step to maintain freshness and eliminate the risk of oxidation. By using natural filtration through muslin, so as not to bruise the olives, we have succeeded in producing an organic olive oil of exceptional finesse and quality.

The harvest for the Essenza is not pressed and is only produced from the free run juice and as such is only available in strictly limited quantities each year.
